The Department of English in collaboration with the Management, Malabar Christian College conducted a workshop on Communicative Skills for High school and HSST teachers of BEM Schools of Malabar Diocese spanning Kasargode to Palakkad on October 28, 2017. The event began with a prayer. Dr. Premanand M E, HoD welcomed the gathering. Dr. Godwin Samraj D P, Principal spoke on the occasion and lauded the innovative practices of the English department. Rev. Vicar Saju Benjamin, Corporate Manager, CSI Schools also addressed the audience. He requested the authorities of Malabar Christian College to continue the good work and beneficial programs in the future too. The Principal handed over a copy of Nuts and Bolts of English to Vicar, Rev Saju Benjamin. The inaugural session was followed by the technical sessions.
The first session was on How to teach Communicative English. Dr. Premanand M.E. was the
resource person. He provided a detailed approach to the topic with illustrations from Nuts and Bolts of English. The participants were also made to work out a practice sheet from the book.
The second session on the topic Use and Implementation of technology tools in the Classroom was handled by Mr. Subin Varghese, Asst. Professor of English, Viswajyothi College of Engineering,Vazhakulam. He introduced a new Learning Management System and its functionalities to the attendees. A practical session on Gamification using the Internet and its possibilities in education was also given to the audience.
The third session was on the topic Strengthening the essentials of English Grammar. This was handled by Saigeetha S, Guest Faculty, Dept. of English, Malabar Christian College, Calicut. She provided an overview of Enhance Your English, a Grammar workbook brought out as part of the Final part of UGC MRP (2015-2018) on Enhanced Writing Skills for Rural Learners by Dr. Premanand M.E. The podcasts of the IPA Chart (http://www.ewsrl.com/eue.html) was also played aloud for the benefit of the participants. The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks, proposed by Ms. Anuradha
P.R., Asst. Professor, Dept. of English, Malabar Christian College, Calicut. Over 30 teachers attended the workshop. 35 copies of Nuts and Bolts of English were distributed to the participants. Feedback was also taken from the participants about the workshop.
